Why does it have to be so much better before you cook it? Why?!?!?

saturdays

Husband works six days a week. And on Saturdays, he's usually gone from 7am to 9pm. He just called and said he's on his way home, so it will be an hour and a half. Awesome. Too much alone time gets old!

Mon-Fri he does his regular job, packing parachutes. He's home by 6pm most of the time, and doesn't have to go into the field overnight or for weeks at a time like many soldiers. So I'm thankful for that.

Saturdays he jumps with the skydive team. So that's really fun. Today he jumped 11 times! Normally he gets 5-7. Now that he has 200+ jumps, he can actually jump on the team at demonstrations. So far he's only driven the van around and done ground crew.

I'm glad he got in with the team, because we were paying big bucks for him to jump. Now he goes for free, but has to go every weekend. And next Fri-Sun, he's going to Louisiana with them.

tornado warnings

I spent 30 minutes on the floor in my bathroom last night. And I wasn't puking, thank you very much. The sirens went off, and we were under tornado warning for a while last night. Its creepy when you hear the voice saying "A tornado warning has been issued. Seek shelter now. Do not delay. Seek shelter now." On the plus side, we can definitely hear the sirens from our apartment.

I don't like when we're under warning. Not so much because I actually think we'll get hit, but because I'm not used to it and don't know quite how to respond.

Husband says "You can't outrun a tornado." Last night, he went to bed while I hid with the cats. He grew up in HI, with hurricanes and tsunamis.

I much prefer earthquakes. They are few and far between, plus there's no warning. No warning means no freaking out and hiding. Its more of Yikes! That just happened! Now let's clean it up.

overdue

I met up with my friend S yesterday. When we were first getting to know each other, we had a conversation about how all these young Army wives get married and get pregnant right away. I made my feelings on children known (I don't want them) and she wanted to wait a while after her wedding so she could finish her master's and just be married.

Two weeks later, she was pregnant. Oops! She was so funny when she told me, because we had talked about how she didn't want to be like that. I think she may have even apologized. She was legally married, but in the Army way, hadn't had the ceremony yet. It was a month away when she found out, and she didn't tell many people until after the wedding.

Well she was due Monday. And we went to Panera and got pedicures on Tuesday. Baby A is still in there, with no signs of an impending delivery.

So far, the day is going well! I worked out, and now I have a cat on my lap and a latte in my hand. Fabulous. :)

Dear Mother Nature,

Please fix the temperatures. I am on spring break and would like to leave the house without a jacket. 50° is not conducive to a week spent at the pool. A month ago, we were having beautiful 80° days. I would like those back now.

scheduling

I'm trying to figure out my schedule for grad school this summer. I can take 9 units, but I'd be gone until 9pm three nights a week. I was hoping summer school classes would be in the mornings, but they aren't. If I do all 9 units, I might be able to finish next May, instead of doing another summer. Plus, there's always the threat of us moving, and me having to start over or stay here alone to finish. I kinda just want to get it done. I'm meeting with my adviser tomorrow or Tuesday, so I hope she can help me sort it out.

raining on Sunday...again

Its another rainy day. We already went to the gym and Starbucks. Now its time for a shower, laundry, and Publix. I also need to go to Target and Petsmart. Target can wait for tomororw, but the cats don't have any more wet food, so I have to get to Petsmart before dinner time. I love my spoiled babies!

Omar has gained weight on the new dry food they eat, which is good and bad. Good because he no longer wakes me up at 0430 every day to eat, bad because he now weighs 16 pounds. We're going to feed him a bit less and see what happens. The little princess that is Bella weighs 9 pounds, and has no qualms about attacking Omar. I love her for it!

I've been doing running intervals on the treadmill lately. I usually do 4 runs. Today I went longer, 2.5 minutes each, and my shin started to hurt on the third interval. Darn it! I miss running, and it feels great to try it again. I'm tired of my shins not doing their job. Aerobically, it feels good, which is encouraging. I may need some new shoes, but I think its just my legs aren't made for running. That's what the physical therapist said, but somehow I've been in denial for 5 years. I keep thinking I can run again, but everytime, it just ends badly.

nice morning

Husband works most Saturdays, so I have lots of time to myself. I usually go to the gym, get my Starbucks, and come home to hang out. When I have a friend free, we have lunch.

Today though, I spent some time at Starbucks, sitting in the sun and reading. It was perfect. I'm loving the sun today. Its been raining so much lately, and nasty rain too. With thunder and tornado watches. Having beautiful weather with the time to sit and enjoy it was wonderful.

first

I'm almost done with my first year teaching first grade. Although I may not have a say in it, I'm trying to decide if I want to stay with this grade level or try for 4th or 5th again. I've taught in 4 schools in 4 years, and in 3 grade levels. I'd really love to not have to pack up my classroom again. It would be so nice to leave my stuff there and come back to it after summer.

The transition to younger students has been tricky. I'm just starting to learn how to react to their behavior, and have seen how important my calm reactions are. Now that I feel I've gotten it down, I want to stay!
